You will need an account if you wish to invite others to your ROOM meeting.
If you are invited to someone else's meeting, you can simply join by clicking on the invitation link the organizer shared (via email, text message apps, etc.) through your Chrome, Edge or Safari browser. You don't need an account, nor is there anything to download or install.
These are the recommended specs for all users (account holders and invitees), alike:
- ANDROID: Google Chrome 100 (Recommended: Google Chrome version 108)
- ANDROID: Microsoft Edge 100 (Recommended: Microsoft Edge version 108)
- MacOS X: Google Chrome 100 or Safari ver 15.5 (Recommended: Chrome ver 108, Safari 16)
- iOS: Google Chrome 100 or Safari ver 15.5 (Recommended: Google Chrome ver 108, Safari 16)
You will need an account if you wish to create meetings and invite others to your room venue. If you are invited to someone else's room venue, you can simply join through your Chrome or Edge browser without an account. There's nothing to download or install.
As an invitee, once you click on the invitation link, you'll be taken to the ROOM website, displaying this panel (below), requesting a user name that ROOM can use as your "virtual name tag" during the meeting. You'll also have a chance to select your camera and microphone before entering (in case you have more than one of each camera or mic "device").
You are not obligated to enter your real name, but a name of some kind is recommended, otherwise your in-meeting personal cutout will automatically be assigned a designation such as "Guest-X".
Signing Up
By signing up, you can create meetings in rooms/venues of your choice, while users without ROOM accounts can only join meetings to which they've been invited. The only requirement is that you have an email account where we can send your first sign-up (confirmation) email.
Starting on our website's Home page you can select either one of the blue "Sign up for free" buttons to begin the process. Optionally, you can review the comparative plans at your leisure by clicking the "Price & Pricing" before proceeding.
Upon pressing the "Sign up for Free" button, you'll be taken to the free registration page.
As soon as you enter your email address and a password, you will be immediately redirected* into a default room and presented with the following popup prompting you to provide a name for your "virtual name tag" in the meeting (this keeps multiple people with the annoying default name "anonymous" from appearing in the meeting).
*NOTE: Although an email verification email will be sent to the address that you provided, you won't be asked to confirm email addresses for one full month, so you can jump right in and start exploring! Your default room will be the New York City room.
Once you've signed up for a free trail account, you'll be taken to ROOM's Dashboard page, from where you can browse through our collection of rooms and easily create a meeting by simply clicking on the "Copy Link" button by your chosen room's description. You don't even need to enter the room!
Incidentally, the Dashboard page is the initial page to which you'll be directed any time you log on in the future, as seen below.
As a meeting organizer, you always have the option to explore any number of rooms via the Dashboard page before you make your selection. Any link that you make will create a room reserved especially for you that will remain active for 6 months.
These so called "persistent rooms" are often used to schedule regular (recurring) meetings for projects or study sessions where attendants need to gather over longer periods of time. But, you are not limited in any way by having a persistent room. In other words, you do not need to "deactivate" the room in any way in order to create other meetings at will, for any purpose.
In addition, an important thing to remember as a meeting organizer is that before you share that link (once it's copied to your clipboard), you need to include a short message about the desired date and time for the meeting, since these invitation links are not automatically entered into a scheduling app or calendar nor is any text automatically generated with a specific scheduling message.
